Bus Trip to Gettysburg PA
Sponsored by the Cape May County Historical Society

Saturday & Sunday, April 24th & 25th, 2010

We’ll leave from the Museum on Senior Travel’s deluxe motor coach @ 6:45 a.m.

to the new Gettysburg National Park Visitors’ Center.  We’ll arrive @12:00 noon, once there; a box lunch will be waiting for us.  We’ll then see the newly restored cyclorama and view a new introductory film about the Battle of Gettysburg, one of the most informative of the Civil War.

We’ll re-board our bus for a 2 hour tour of the battlefield with a National Park Service guide, with stops along the way.  After returning to the Visitors’ Center, where you may have a little time to shop in their gift shop, we’ll head for our hotel, the Days Inn Gettysburg.  (5 star rating) After an hour to unpack and refresh, we’ll proceed to the historical Dobbin House Tavern for dinner in the Abigail Adams Ballroom.  Built in 1776, the tavern is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  After dinner, you can rest up for the next day or take a stroll through town.  The hotel is only a quarter of a mile from the center of town (although along a busy highway).

Sunday morning, we’ll have a continental breakfast at the hotel before checking out and boarding our bus for a visit to the David Wills House.  This is the house where Lincoln stayed the night before delivering the Gettysburg Address.  The Wills House has only been open to the public since February, 2009, and you can actually stand in the Lincoln bedroom.

A quick ride back to the Gettysburg Visitors’ Center for lunch and time to visit the museum there (and probably time for more shopping) and we’ll board shuttle buses for a trip to the Eisenhower Farm National Historic Site.  You can visit the museum with artifacts from President Dwight Eisenhower’s life, tour the house or go on a self-guided tour of the working farm.  We’ll board the shuttle buses back to the Visitors’ Center at 3pm and change over to our motor coach for the trip back home.  We will make a dinner stop around 6 pm,   which will not be included in the price of the trip.

Cost for the trip is $180 per person if you’re sharing a room.  If you would like a private room, the cost is $224.  This includes the bus, tip for bus driver, lunch and dinner on Saturday, your room for the night, breakfast and lunch on Sunday and all admission fees.  For more info call 609-465-3535, press ext# 4 to speak to Sonia or ext# 8 for Pary.
