Cape May County’s Early Families
Most of the early settlers in Cape May County came from Long
Island, New York. Others came from Massachusetts, Connecticut, and
Burlington, West Jersey. Many of the earliest settlers were whalers, though
raising cattle and harvesting timber were important early industries as
well.
