The Cape May County Historical & Genealogical Society is seeking nominations for the 2024 Community Spirit Award!

This award honors a young community member who has contributed to the development of community engagement programming at a local arts or history organization. It is the hope of the Society that encouraging and recognizing youth for their philanthropic efforts will help them build a sense of pride in their community, a desire to participate in community betterment, and to develop an appreciation for community engagement.

Nomination Requirements

  • Nominee must be under the age of 18 and a resident of Cape May County.
  • Nominee must have implemented their community engagement programing by 9/1/2024.
  • Community engagement programming must be in support of an arts or history organization in Cape May County, and must take place in 2024.
  • Nominations must be emailed to the Society at cmchgsmuseum@gmail.com by 9/1/2024. Nomination email MUST include the following information:
    • Nominee name, age, and township of residence.
    • Nominator name and preferred contact information.
    • A summary of the programming.
    • Name of the organization where programming will be implemented, with contact information for a representative of that organization.

Winner of the 2024 Community Spirit Award will be selected by the Cape May County Historical & Genealogical Society Board of Trustees. Award ceremony will be held at the Society’s Annual Meeting & Luncheon, fall date to-be-determined.

The 2023 Community Spirit Award was given to 7-year-old Vivienne Leigh Vesper, of Lower Township, for her unique contribution of "For Kids, By Kids" programming at the Museum of Cape May County. Ms. Vesper created and implemented two kids’ programs at the Museum: "Viv's Kids Donation Corner" and "Skratty's Snacky Scavenger Hunt". Both programs help the Museum engage visiting children with local history.

Ms. Vesper poses with her award, presented by Vice President Bobbi Hornbeck (right) and Board Trustee Jacquelyn Kyle (left) of the Museum of Cape May County.
